Sanya sees number of high-tech enterprises rise to 155

The number of high-tech enterprises in Sanya city (Hainan province, South China) has reached 155.    According to the publication, in recent years the local authorities have been paying special attention to the innovative development of the city. Sanya is actively developing the sphere of tropical agriculture, the International Research and Innovation Center of Seed Breeding and the National Innovation Center of Rice Cultivation Technology, resistant to saline soils, a lot of other projects are being implemented in the city.    

The report also stresses that the authorities are promoting the transformation of Sanya into a modern, tropical city, focusing on quality socio-economic development. Since April 2018, when Chinese President Xi Jinping announced the establishment of an experimental zone and free trade port on Hainan Island, more than 4,600 enterprises have registered in Sanya. At the same time, the number of enterprises with foreign capital reached 640. In addition, the city has recruited more than 40,000 skilled workers.    

June 1, 2020, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council of China published a program for the formation of a free trade port in Hainan. The document provides for the creation of a special customs zone on this tropical island. The PRC authorities plan to complete the construction of the free port on the territory of the province in 2025, by which time the island should be built a system of free trade and investment. By 2035, Hainan is expected to be free of trade and investment, cross-border capital flows, entry and exit of people, and freight transportation.
