The Fourth China-Singapore Case Study Forum Held with a Sub-Venue at Hainan High People’s Court
On October 14, the Fourth China-Singapore Case Study Forum was held at the National Judges College. Tao Kaiyuan, Justice and Vice President of the Supreme People’s Court, delivered the opening speech. Li Chenglin, Member of Leading Party Members' Group and Director of the Political Department of the Supreme People’s Court, gave the closing remarks. See Kee Oon (Justice of the Supreme Court of Singapore and Judge of the Court of Appeal of Singapore) and Kwek Mean Luck (Justice of the Supreme Court of Singapore and Chair of the Board of Governors of the Singapore Judicial College) also addressed the forum. Participants held in-depth exchanges on intellectual property (IP)-related cases.
Tao Kaiyuan extended her congratulations on the success of the forum and emphasized its role as a key bridge for judicial exchanges between China and Singapore under the “Belt and Road Initiative” and its potential as an innovative, inclusive, and sustainable platform of cooperation. She also expressed her belief that the two nations will continue to deepen their judicial collaboration in IP, tackle contemporary legal challenges, respond to the call of our time, and promote innovative development. Tao Kaiyuan proposed that the Supreme Courts of China and Singapore should prioritize model IP cases as a key part of bilateral exchanges and cooperations to jointly enhance the capabilities of internationalized and specialized IP trial teams and promote global IP governance rules to advance in a more just and equitable manner.
Li Chenglin highlighted the forum’s success as a milestone in China-Singapore judicial cooperation, and a clear demonstration of the spirit of open and inclusive cooperation and the principle of equal and practical collaboration. He expressed his hope that the courts of the two countries will enhance their understanding and mutual trust in each other's legal systems through diverse forms of communication, continuously improve their capability to accurately apply adjudication rules in IP cases, and promote new progress and advancements in judicial exchanges and cooperation between China and Singapore.
The forum was jointly hosted by the National Judges College of China, the Case Research Institute of the Supreme People’s Court of China, and the Singapore Judicial College, both online and offline. Judges, experts and scholars from the Supreme People’s Court of China, the National Judges College, local courts, as well as the Supreme Court of Singapore, the Singapore Judicial College, the High Court of Singapore, and other IP fields attended extensive discussions.
The sub-venue of the forum was at the Hainan High People’s Court. Tao Kaiyuan, Vice President of the Supreme People's Court of China, attended the event at the sub-venue in Hainan High People’s Court virtually. More than 20 judges and judge assistants engaged in IP adjudication from Hainan courts attended the forum online for learning and discussions.
