Seminar highlights protection of minors in cyberspace
The Supreme People's Court (SPC) of China hosted the International Seminar on Protection of Minors in Cyberspace together with the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, on Dec 4.
He Xiaorong, vice-president of the SPC, along with Amakobe Sande, the UNICEF Representative to China, delivered speeches at the seminar.
He emphasized that the healthy growth of minors is not only crucial for the happiness and well-being of every family but also essential for the harmony and stability of society and the long-term development of a nation.
It is a shared goal of the SPC and UNICEF to strengthen exchanges and mutual learning in judicial protection of minors in cyberspace, advance the establishment of international mechanisms in this regard, and create a safe, healthy and clean online environment for minors, He said.
He expressed the commitment of Chinese courts to work together with UNICEF and the judiciary of various countries to better promote the healthy growth and development of minors globally.
Sande congratulated China on the 40th anniversary of the establishment of its first juvenile court, and acknowledged that the internet and digital world bring various risks while providing unprecedented opportunities for minors to study, access information, socialize and unleash their creativity.
Noting that protecting minors in cyberspace requires concerted efforts from all parties, she said UNICEF is committed to strengthening cooperation with the SPC to further enhance the protection of minors.
