Hainan NEVs increase by 133% YoY in first half of 2022

According to the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Hainan, in the first half of this year, the province sold 38,100 new energy vehicles (NEVs), a year-on-year increase of 133%, and new energy vehicles accounted for 37.93% of the total of newly sold vehicles, 18 percentage points higher than the national average.

As of the end of June, the province's total number of new energy vehicles has reached 159,000, accounting for 8.91% of the total number of vehicles, 5.7 percentage points higher than the national average. The proportion surpassed Tianjin and Beijing, second only to Shanghai municipality, ranking second in term of China's provincial-level regions.

This year, Hainan has innovated ways to grant financial awards and subsidy support, target services for different consumer groups, and encourage NEV consumption. The province also issued the "2022 Action Plan” in which 16 tasks are put forward to spur the promotion of NEVs in sub-sectors and improve the infrastructure and the environment. In 2022, NEV is expected to account for more than 30% of new vehicles in Hainan.

In the second half of this year, Hainan's government departments intend to coordinate the relevant companies to promote NEVs in rural areas, further stabilizing consumption while starting the 2022 award and subsidy declaration, striving to promote more than 60,000 NEVs throughout the year.
