Hainan Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Center opens Sept. 30
The Hainan Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Center will begin trial operations on Sept. 30, presenting new achievements in the development of Hainan’s cultural industry and the protection of intangible cultural heritage through a variety of arts performances and intangible cultural heritage exhibitions.

The new center, located in Shuangchuang Square, Qiongshan District, Haikou, is one of the provincial capital’s major public cultural projects. The center includes the South Tower (Hainan Cultural Center), the North Tower (Hainan Qiong Opera Theater) as well as other theaters, rehearsal halls, academic lecture halls, intangible cultural heritage exhibition halls, and other exhibition facilities.

The Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Center occupies the 1st to 4th floors of the Hainan Cultural Center in the South Tower, with a total exhibition area of nearly 7,000 square meters. Over 300 intangible cultural heritage items are on display, including a 2.2 meter tall vase carved from coconut shells and 16 exquisitely woven dragon quilts with sky-high historic, artistic, and social value that are being displayed to the public for the first time.

Starting Sept. 30, the Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Center will hold a number of activities. Intangible cultural heritage representatives from Haikou. Wenchang, Danzhou, Ding’an, Chengmai, and other parts of Hainan will put on ICH exhibitions and hold exchange activities. Daily cultural and arts activities will also be held, including special lectures, art classes, exhibitions, children’s plays, and classic Qiong (Hainan) opera performances.
