Sanya Luobi Cave Site Archeology Research Station Opens
On December 1, the Sanya Luobi Cave Site Archeology Research Station officially opened. Jointly established by the Hainan Provincial Antiquities and Archeology Research Institute and Peking University School of Archaeology and Museology, the Station will be used as the basis for further in-depth research and excavations of this important paleolithic site.

The two parties will formulate a multidisciplinary research plan to carry out research such as chronology, taphonomy, paleoenvironment, and ancient DNA; as well as carry out talent training to cultivate more archaeological professionals for Hainan.
Luobi Cave is the southernmost caveman site in China. In 1992 and 1993, the Hainan Provincial Museum, Sanya Municipal Museum, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology conducted two fruitful archaeological excavations.
"Archaeological methods and techniques are constantly improving. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a systematic archaeological excavation that meets modern standards," said Li Feng (associate professor of the School of Archaeology and Museology of Peking University). The institute will focus on the extraction and testing of samples, further consolidate the site age and paleoenvironmental data, reveal the living conditions of 10,000 years ago, and promote the development of paleoarcheology in Hainan.
