"Lightning-Fast Clearance" for Smoother Travel! Haikou Meilan International Airport’s International Transfer Zone to Open on May 1

To provide a more convenient and efficient travel experience for transfer passengers, after undergoing demolition, renovation, completion acceptance, and industry inspection, the newly upgraded international transfer zone at Haikou Meilan International Airport (hereinafter referred to as Meilan Airport), a subsidiary of Hainan Development Holdings Co. Ltd., will begin trial operations on April 28, 2025, and officially open on May 1. This upgrade will provide hardware support for building a flight network covering multiple models, including "Domestic → International via Haikou," "International → Domestic via Haikou," and "International → International via Haikou," further solidifying the foundation for establishing an aviation hub facing Pacific and Indian Ocean.

After the International Transfer Zone is operational, international passengers transferring from international to international flights or international to domestic flights who complete "through check-in and baggage through-check" procedures at their origin station can finish transit or entry procedures in the International Transfer Zone of Terminal 2 at Meilan Airport, directly accessing the departure area for subsequent flights to achieve seamless connections. Domestic passengers transferring to international flights will use a dedicated transfer channel, with redesigned passenger flow paths and signage systems on-site to categorize and guide passengers.

The International Transfer Zone at Meilan Airport adopts a "Customs Control Area + Centralized Border Inspection" hybrid clearance model. The total walking distance for transfer passengers has been reduced by nearly 50% compared to pre-renovation. The customs health quarantine process utilizes an intelligent pre-inspection system, allowing individual passengers to complete clearance in just 2-4 seconds. The border inspection waiting area has been expanded by over 50%, increasing peak-hour passenger handling capacity from 44 to 200 passengers per hour. Annual passenger handling capacity has risen from 185,000 to approximately 747,500.

For checked luggage of transfer passengers, the International Transfer Hall at Meilan Airport has established a "Cloud Supervision + Smart Sorting" closed-loop management system. Leveraging the inter-terminal baggage conveyor line in the international arrivals baggage sorting area, transfer luggage can automatically undergo customs inspection and be matched with connecting flights. Passengers can monitor the progress of luggage inspection via electronic display screens in the transfer hall, reducing waiting time for baggage clearance and further enhancing transfer efficiency and passenger satisfaction.
